Friday Faves

Hey everyone, just popping in with a few of my Friday favorites! Many of these will be food related because, well, food. There may also be a special “Mira’s Favorite” in there. Hope you enjoy ūüôā

  • Trader Joes has been killing it with their fall candles, I love the¬†vanilla pumpkin¬†the most, but this¬†honeycrisp apple¬†is a strong second.

  • I almost bought a costco size pack of¬†Ferrero Rocher, but I’m glad I opted for the normal size. This one is usually a Christmas treat, but about a month ago Dave brought me home a little packet of them and now I crave them all the time! If I’m being honest I’ve also been trying to track down Cadbury eggs, but I think it’s seriously too early for that sitch.

  • This pillow has made a comeback in my life, it makes sleep enjoyable again!

  • I have been really turned off by coffee for a long while now and I really really miss it. I love the ritual of having a cup of coffee in the morning, but I can’t even remember the last time I had one with my breakfast. In the beginning of this pregnancy I turned towards tea, and now I’m addicted and have a cup a day. Because I’ve also been obsessed with pumpkin (#basic), I tried the Trader Joe’s pumpkin rooibos and it’s everything I’ve wanted and more.

  • In other beverage related news, I’ve also been into hot chocolate. Again, I almost made an impulse Costco sized purchase, but held back and then found this lovely little yum yum spot at Ross’s Dress For Less (gotta love finding food items at a home goods store).

  • Celebrating four years of love with the most amazing man ever.

And now it’s time for Mira’s favorites…

  • PAPA!!!! I’m not the only one that’s got this guy as a favorite this week. Lately Mira has been all about sitting in her papa’s lap, chasing him around the house, and having him hold her. It makes my heart melt, mostly because I love this guy so much and when I see her love him I think ‘she get’s it, he’s the best!’

  • “ELNO!!!!!!!!!!” We love Elmo around these parts, he sleeps with Mira at nap time, he is in her arms all around the house and he gets to sit in her puppy chair (which is kind of a big deal). I do recast the correct production, but I’m having my first ever speech therapist struggle where I love the cute incorrect production! Plus I know it’s a close enough approximation and the reason it’s happening is because she’s accurately getting the /l/ sound, so yay for that! Wow, maybe you guys didn’t want to hear all that??? Side note, now I’m trying to convince Dave we need a trip to Sesame place!!!!!

That’s it for now, have a great weekend!

Be well.

Friday Favorites

“It’s Friday night, and the mood is right! ¬†Gonna have some fun, show you how it’s done, TGIF!!!” — that just turned into a Friday flashback, but seriously who else misses Balki, Michelle Tanner, and the Dinosaurs?!?!

Well because it’s Friday I thought I’d share with you some of my most recent favorite things, here goes:

1.) Rock climbing – Dave and I took a break from our gym in Seattle when we were saving for the wedding (plus the vibe at our gym in Seattle changed a bit and we weren’t feeling it), but lately it’s been calling to me. ¬†We got a membership at a gym down here and we are super happy with it, in the last week we’ve been 4 times. ¬†(picture source)

2.) Kettlebells – the climbing gym has kettlebells!!! The gym at our apartment doesn’t have kettlebells, so I haven’t been able to use them since I was in Seattle. ¬†I did this workout¬†yesterday and I was a sweaty happy mess!! Next up is this one. (picture source)

3.) Stop,¬†Breathe, & Think¬†App– I’ve always had an underlying love of meditation, especially after taking yoga nidra, a guided meditation class, some 5 years ago. ¬†I haven’t ever committed to continuous practice though, and I realized it’s because I’ve been trying to fly solo and really I benefit from it being guided. ¬†After taking the psychology of happiness course¬†(I promise more recaps on that soon) and seeing all the evidence surrounding the benefits of meditation I’ve had my mind on setting up a regular practice. ¬† That’s where this app comes in, you start by taking a deep breath and “checking” in with how you feel physically and mentally. ¬†After your check in they suggest different meditations to try (from “body scan” to “gratitude”). ¬†They are wonderful, I especially like the “change” meditation. ¬†I even purchased a couple extras, including “sleep.” ¬†It has really helped me to slow my mind down before bed, and the other day Dave was a little upset and he tried the “change” meditation and afterwards he said he felt way better.

4.) Meditation spot – to go along with #3, I felt like I needed a special place to do my meditations. ¬†I set up these Buddhas and candle and when I start my session I light the candle it¬†definitely sets the mood….for meditation that is ;P

5.) Old journals – I’ve been going through my journals from young childhood all the way up to my early twenties and it has been such a wonderful blast from the past. ¬†I’m realizing that my blog/instagram/facebook are my new age ‘scrapbook.’ ¬†In the journals I’ve seen pictures (which now end up on instagram/blog), narratives about what was going on in my life (now on the blog), and music lyrics (my friends may not like it but I’m always posting lyrics on facebook). ¬†Making scrapbooks was always a cathartic activity though, and I often think about getting back into it, maybe one day.

6.) Coloring – I bought this at Fireworks Gallery (love that store) in the Seattle airport for the flight back to LA. ¬†In addition to passing the time on the flight, it’s been such a relaxing thing to do when I’m waiting for appointments or watching Dave surf (it’s been a scootch to cold for me to go in, I know, I’m a weenie).

7.) Seeing this little guy when I’m baking/cooking. ¬†For some reason he loves to go between peoples legs when they’re standing, and it’s so adorable. ¬†You would assume it was to catch food, and I’m sure that’s part of it, but he does it in the morning when I’m standing in the closet picking out my clothes too.

Well that’s it for this Friday, have a good weekend!

Be well.

A few favorites and my week in workouts

The weekend is coming to an end and I’m pretty excited!! ¬†Anyone else as excited as I am?? ¬†I’ve also been excited by some other things lately, and I would like to share those with you. now.

1.) My new Mac book air! ¬†Holy crap it’s nice having a computer that goes at a relatively normal pace. ¬†Okay, I’ll admit it, I like my computers like I like the cars to drive around me on the freeway….FAST! ¬†When things don’t go fast mama gets angry, but that’s not the case with this little gem. Thanks Apple, you da best!

2.) ¬†My Nikon 3300. ¬†You may have noticed that the quality of my photos has improved (and if not well then that’s awkward). ¬†It is definitely NOT because my skills have gotten better, it is all due to my amazing new image capturing device, and for that I am STOKED! ¬†I mean obviously I want to become a better photographer, but if improved technology can eliminate the learning process well then bully!

3.) Sasquatch 2015. ¬†Oh. My. I’m so excited for all the bands playing at Samsquantch this year! ¬†I haven’t been since they made the change from single day tickets to all weekend tickets….it was kind of a principal thing; however, I now realize if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. ¬†Hey I’m not afraid to admit when I was overly opinionated on something (e.g. Uggs in the year 2006), and would like to change my mind.

4.) Our trip to Salish, it was so amazingly relaxing.  Definitely a treat.

5.) My Fitbit Charge. ¬†Can I just tell you how cool the sleep aspect of this thing is? ¬†I’m amazingly restless throughout the night, there’s pretty much nothing I can do about it, but I guess it’s cool to know.

6.) Yumbox. ¬†After visiting Japan Dave and I realized our love for having our food divided into separate compartments (yes, I’m highly concerned for what this might mean for our children). ¬†When I found the yumbox on pinterest I immediately clicked purchase with very little thought, and I’m happy I did.

7.) Cookie Butter Sandwich Cookies. ¬†Okay, you haven’t lived until you have tried speculoos!!! ¬†Well, as of late, TJ’s has been amping up the speculoos game and selling it in a variety of forms. ¬†They have chocolate speculoos cups/bars and speculoos ice cream. ¬†The other day Dave and I saw these little suckers, and just died from how delicious they are! ¬†I feel like if Trader Joe’s ever falls on hard times, they could probably get by just selling speculoos products!

8.) Aerial yoga. ¬†As I mentioned in a previous post, Dave and I took an aerial yoga class and it was phenomenal. ¬†I really enjoyed it and I highly recommend that you check out the studio in Fremont. ¬†I’m already looking into purchasing the ten class pass.

9.) Half marathon training. ¬†My runs have been feeling pretty great lately (I feel like there’s this difficult hump that you have to get over in the beginning with running), so I’m really stoked to amp up the miles and get to 13.1!!! ¬†Really hoping that my performance will live up to the name of the half, Negative Splits.

Now I want to share with you a bit about my training this last week. ¬†Some were hard, some I didn’t want to do, but in the end I’m glad I did them!

Friday: 2 mile run with a big elevation gain (down to the falls and back), can’t believe those hills!

Saturday: Aerial Yoga

Sunday: 5 miles 10:30 pace

Monday: Hot yoga

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: 2.5 miles with 5 minutes of planks

Thursday: 3 miles (in the rain)

Total mileage: 12.5

Here’s to hoping I can push out the triathlon on Sunday and then 6 miles on Monday ūüôā

Be well.
