Sunday Style IX

I’ve got some exciting news……. ‘Sunday Style’ is back!!! I’ve definitely missed doing these posts, and one of my yearly goals was to get back into doing posts that really bring me joy!

I’ve mentioned my love of capsule wardrobes before on the blog, and I worked hard to create another capsule for this summer. I might try to put together a post on what my fall capsule will look like this year, but as for summer I never got a chance. I’m happy with it so far, and I’m extremely happy that (after a lot of hard work) I was able to reuse quite a few pieces from previous capsules.

To remind you all why I fell in love with the idea of a capsule wardrobe, I’ll share with you a few of the principals that really resonate with me:

  • Keep it seasonal – this way when I go into my closet I can wear ALL the items, not just half.  This doesn’t mean getting rid of ‘out of season items’ it just means storing them until it’s their time.
  • Keep it minimal – I get overwhelmed when there are too many pieces in my closet, and I find I feel like I have more options when I have less items (weird, but true)
  • Save the planet – okay, this ones a little bit much, but it’s absolutely true.  How much clothing you go through is just as impactful on the environment as other kinds of waste. To find out more check out this article.
  • Save time – this one is more important to me now than ever. I don’t have as much time to pick out my outfits, so it’s great to have some of the planning taken out for me.

There are other great reasons to do a capsule wardrobe. I get very inspired by this blogger, so check her out!

On to my 2018 summer capsule. One of the items that I really wanted to add to my capsule was a jumpsuit. I guess maybe I was getting a little jealous of Mira’s jumpsuit

I decided to go for black over her psychedelic colors.

I found this jump suit at Lulu’s, they definitely have a ton of great options in the jumpsuit department.

It’s extremely comfortable and I’m very happy to have added this piece.

I still want to do a ‘Sunday Style’ with Dave, and now I think I’ll have to do one with Mira. I’ve been working on her capsule wardrobe (kids clothes can get just as over whelming when there are too many pieces).

Be well.

Sunday Style VII

Happy Sunday!!  It’s been so long since I’ve come at you with a Sunday Style post so this is a very exciting moment for me! YAY!

See my other Sunday Style posts here:

Sunday Style I, II, III, IV, V, VI

I’m still figuring out what the weather is going to be like down here, so I’m trying to stay away from purchasing any new garment until I’ve experienced a SoCal winter (yeah, I’m droppin’ that term on ya). HOWEVER, I just happened to be in Target yesterday and stumbled upon some awesome items; a few of which I couldn’t resist.  This post features one of the items I snagged, printed jogger pants.  I actually tend to be a person that runs hot temperature wise, but it’s pretty warm down here so I figured a light weight pant would be pretty good for “fall.”

These are very soft, and super comfortable!

I love the ‘jogger’ pant look, so I was excited to see it in a new form!

I’m already thinking of other types of tops I can pair them with.  I’ve started looking at pinterest for outfit inspiration and I really like this look!

I was in Palm Dessert for most of my spring break, so I decided to break into my summer capsule (90 degree weather will do that to you). I don’t have my entire summer capsule put together, but I have favorites that I saved because I like how they fit and know that I will wear them when summer comes. So today you get a sneak peak at my summer capsule.   We’re heading back to Seattle today, so I’m taking full advantage of being able to wear my warm weather attire!

Sunday style III.jpg

On my trip to Las Vegas last year my cousins, Kate and Emily, introduced me to Zara and Top Shop (I know, I’m a little late to the game).   I am now in LOVE with Zara now. I feel like they have the latest styles for an excellent price.

I’ve heard some people say that crop tops are for girls in their teens and early twenties and to that I say, last summer was the first time I felt comfortable (and in love) enough with my body to wear a crop top, if there ever comes a time that I don’t feel comfortable then I won’t.  I think we let other people, and society, dictate how we should look (and how we should feel about ourselves) WAY too much. At the end of the day if you’re happy with you, then that’s what matters most, and if you’re not then that’s when you should act.

It feels as though we’ve seen a lot of California lately, and I can’t say I’m upset about that 🙂

Be well.

Sunday Style III (California ed.)

Hi from sunny California!!!!

It’s been a weekend of ups and downs.  We came to celebrate Dave’s grandma’s 92nd birthday, which was an absolute blast!!

DSC_0237.JPG

We were also here to celebrate Dave’s dad’s birthday and scatter his ashes, not so much of a blast but definitely a good memorial of him.

Anyways, on to my style…I managed to bring most items from my spring capsule for the trip; because Seattle’s still a bit colder than Cali I dipped into my summer capsule.

I have to tell you I am absolutely in love with my Birkenstocks!!  I’m so glad they’re back 🙂  They are so comfortable, and yet I feel like they can add so much to a simple outfit.

It was so warm all weekend, I couldn’t have asked for more vitamin D.  It made me so excited to start my summer capsule (hehe).

I will tell you this, I walked into a shop and looked around at the clothes and thought, “Nope, I don’t need anything, I have all my clothes for this season.”  YAY for me!!!!!  That definitely didn’t stop me from buying a new bikini though!!

Bralette: Urban Outfitters

Shoes: Birkenstock

2015 Spring Capsule

I’m so excited to finely share with you (in it’s entirety) my spring capsule.  It definitely took some time and effort deciding on the 39 pieces, but I’m happy I did and I really think it will help me spend less over the next three months.

Without further ado, my capsule..

Capsule I capsule II.jpg

A few of the items I still need to acquire (e.g., leather jacket, clog sandals, white tank).  That’s one of the things I like about doing a seasonal capsule, the planning that goes into it.  I didn’t just pick from the items I have, I got to do some research online (I have to look at pinterest, jeez twist my arm) and decide a few (about 10) items that I wanted to buy to add to the clothes I have.  I felt like I could add items that were new to the season and stylish yet it gave me a limit to how much I was going to spend.  Now I get to be creative about how I put the items together.

My plan is to go this season without buying anything else.  It’s definitely a work in progress, I mean it’s my first time trying it, so we’ll see how it goes.  I’m excited to show you guys some of the outfits I create along the way, thanks for joining me on this adventure!

Let me know if you have any questions about the items.

Be well.

Capsule part I

Hey friends!  So I’m just getting the hang of these wardrobe collages, so you will be getting my capsule in installments.  Here are 20 of the items from my capsule, please keep in mind that this is my first time doing this so I may need to make some adjustments, but I figure I’m headed in the right direction with this minimalist style thing.
These are my tops, dresses, and outerwear for this capsule, and I’m pretty stoked.
 Capsule part I

Next up will be my pants and shoes (yes in my world those two categories can equal 19 items).

Be well.

Sunday Style II

I wish it were a Sunday, cause that’s my fun day!!!

So I did it, I made my spring wardrobe capsule.  It consists of 39 items (shoes, outerwear, tops, & bottoms).  It was definitely a process, and it was hard to part with some things, but I’m proud to say that I donated/sold a lot of items.

If you live in Seattle (or a similar city) then you are lucky to have access to all the second hand stores that buy/trade clothing.  I took a lot of my clothing to Crossroads Trading Co., and I was able to get some money to buy the booties photographed above.  They’re pretty particular about what they take; they want things that are fairly new, in style, and in season.  I think they are pretty fair about how they do it, and I highly recommend them to people wanting to do some spring wardrobe cleaning.

Let me tell you about the outfit I’m wearing

Hat: H&M (no longer in stock, and I couldn’t find similar)

Top: Victoria Secret essential v neck (clearly I love these tops, I have a grey one and a white one)

Outerwear: green military jacket from an Instagram shop of my friends who now has an online store, Pretty.Dirty.Hippie she has great stuff!!

Pants: Forever 21 classic skinny jeans

Shoes: Crossroads cut out booties

Hope you’re having a great weekend!!

Be well.

Sunday Style I

Back by popular demand, I decided to do another style post.  In fact, so long as you continue to enjoy them, I plan on doing weekly installments.

DSC_0086.JPG

I have to admit something to you…I cancelled my recurring stitch fix orders.  I was getting pretty bummed by what I was receiving, everything was boring and uninspiring.  I hadn’t been getting any fun new styles and in my style profile I had indicated that I was fairly adventurous.

When I cancelled my recurring order I forgot to indicate that I didn’t one “one last fix,” so I ended up receiving one more.  I was upset when I saw that it was in the mail and on it’s way to me so I wrote stitch fix and complained.  They were super nice and said if I didn’t like anything they would gladly refund me my twenty dollars (normally if you don’t keep any of the items they’ve sent they absorb the twenty dollars that you’ve put down; however, if you do get something the twenty dollars goes towards the cost of that item).  Well, I was really excited about this skirt that I received.  I’d never seen anything like it and I was stoked to get something so unique, flattering, and comfy!

DSC_0099.JPG

Needless to say, I will definitely sign up for a few more stitches.  Although, I’m trying to limit my clothing shopping and get back to the essentials so I’m not sure how many more stitches I’ll get.  I’m thinking the best way to do this will be to set up a capsule wardrobe.  Here are two of my favorite fashion bloggers discussing what a capsule wardrobe is: Un-fancy and Project 333.  The only problem is, it feels difficult parting with some of my long term and favorite clothing items.  I’m slowly figuring it out, and ultimately I love being a minimalist any chance I get (it dramatically decreases my stress), so why not try it with my clothing.

Jacket: Forever 21 (similar here)

Shirt: Victoria’s secret essential v-neck t

Skirt: Stitch fix (not sure if you can make specific requests but this skirt is called the “Reanne skirt”)

Shoes: Skechers

Sun glasses: Ray ban

Mustard pants

I really enjoy reading the blog Un-fancy for fashion inspiration!  She has the most amazing ideas, and I feel like her outfits are totally doable.  A few months back she took on some guest bloggers and if you submitted a couple of posts she would post them for you.  I was super excited and was ready to get on it when we were hit with a couple life events that moved my blog to the back burner.  Now I’m back at it with the old blog and I want to give it a go.  I may not get posted on ‘un-fancy,’ but here’s a little something that I may have sent her.

CSC_0075.jpg
DSC_0046.jpgThis top has definitely been a fall/winter staple for me.  It pairs so well with a skirt, fancy shorts, or medium/high waisted pants.

I really branched out when I purchased these mustard pants.  First off I don’t love capris, but I felt like these were long enough that it would be alright and it definitely was.  They feel more like cropped pants.  Secondly, I have never worn the color mustard, but now I can say I will never go back, in fact I bought a mustard beanie too 🙂

I’m a runner, so the thought of wearing heels for a daytime outfit es no bueno.  However, I really wanted to amp up my game and I really think I did.  I felt like the whole outfit really came together with the heels.

Top: Zara (couldn’t find it on their website, but here’s a similar one at Nordstrom)

Pants: used Sincerely Kinsey (similar at ASOS)

Shoes: Target Shockingly comfortable

Be well!
